Our History
Steinway Hall - Akron, Inc.
Ohio’s only fully licensed Steinway piano dealer, Steinway Hall - Akron traces its founding to West Akron in 1945. It is Ohio's most unique piano showroom and one of the most successful Steinway retail operations in America. The founding corporation was purchased by Ted Good in 1978 who received the first license to the Steinway Hall name in 1993.
Located near the University of Akron, this 37-room mansion and carriage house was the home of Akron industrialist, Byron W. Robinson. At 103 years old, the building is now filled with fine new Steinway, Boston and Essex pianos for sale from the comprehensive Family of Steinway-Designed Pianos. Used acoustic pianos of all brands are available as well. A 60 seat lecture and recital hall complete with a Steinway Concert Grand piano and unique Steinway memorabilia ensure our customers an interesting experience while selecting their new piano.
Steinway Hall - Akron also houses the award-winning T.S.Good Church Organ Company, which offers classic church organs by the Fratelli Ruffatti Pipe Organ Company and the RODGERS Instrument Corporation, and the Summit Choral Society.

The Mattlin-Hyde Piano Company - 100 Years of Service to Cleveland
Cleveland, Ohio – In 1909 John D. Rockefeller began to make his fortune with his Standard Oil Company in Cleveland, Henry Ford introduced the Model T and first made it in Cleveland, you could visit Halle Brothers flagship department store downtown
Cleveland and M.O. Mattlin opened his first piano store at 55th and Euclid. In 2009, of all these companies and many more like them only one remains here to celebrate its 100th Anniversary... Mr. Mattlin’s Mattlin-Hyde Piano Company.
In 1945, after 36 years of representing pianos from many of America’s best piano makers, M.O.’s son, Bill Mattlin joined the family business. Twenty four years later the Mattlin Piano Co. merged with Bob Hyde’s Hyde Piano Co. from the west-side of Cleveland and the Mattlin-Hyde Piano Company was born.
In 1971, the Mattlin-Hyde Piano Co. moved to its current location on the corner of Mayfield and Richmond Roads. In 1978 the company was appointment as the exclusive Steinway & Sons dealer for Cleveland and in 1996 the Mattlin-Hyde Piano Company was purchased by Steinway Hall-Akron, Inc. They have operated as a division of that company for the past 13 years providing a consolidated representation for the Family of Steinway-Designed Pianos as well as other major brands throughout NE Ohio.
Now, in 2009 and after 100 years in business in Cleveland, we are celebrating the founding of the Mattlin-Hyde piano company, the many artists and institutions that have been served by the company and the many partnerships that have been created in that remarkable Century of Music.
